Andreas Martin Hofmeir, Germany
Andreas Martin Hofmeir is a professor at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, he founded the popular Bavarian band LaBrassBanda and is successful both as a cabaret performer and a classical tuba player. BASF’s cultural programme honoured his versatile artistic work with the Artist Portrait 2018.
He studied in Berlin (D. Unkrodt), Stockholm (M. Lind) and Hannover (J. Björn-Larsen). Hofmeir won the prestigious City of Porcia International Tuba Competition, the prize of German Music Competition in Berlin and the ECHO Klassik as “Instrumentalist of the Year 2013”, the latter as the first tuba player in the history of the competition.
Hofmeir received a scholarship from the orchestra academies of the Berliner and Münchner Philharmoniker (Berlin and Munic Philarmonic), and has played with the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic), the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra), among others. As a soloist he has performed with the Münchner and Bremer Philharmoniker (Munich and Bremen Philharmonic), Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra), NDR Radiophilharmonie (NDR Radio Philharmonic) and many others. He has also performed at noted music festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Ludwigsburg Festival (Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele), the Brandenburg Summer Concerts and the Euroclassic Festival, and filled the halls of the Berlin and Kölner Philharmonie (Cologne Philharmonic Hall).
Apart from his classical career, Hofmeir has also been on stage as a cabaret artist for more than twenty years, including as an actor and lyricist with the music cabaret Star Fours and the word cabaret ensemble Die Qualkommission, with whom he has won numerous prizes.
