Country: Slovenia
Luka Ovčjak, euphonium Žan Pečenik, euphonium Gašper Poprijan, tuba Žiga Kališnik, tuba Bass Brass Collective is a relatively new tuba quartet from Ljubljana, Slovenia. The quartet was formed in September 2023 from the members’ shared love for tuba quartet music and their common opinion that it should be played more. The quartet’s members are students of the Ljubljana Academy of Music – on euphonium Luka Ovčjak and Žan Pečenik, who are studying under professor Nejc Merc, and on tuba Gašper Poprijan and Žiga Kališnik, who are studying under professor Josef Steinböck. All of the members have participated in and won golden awards at many national and international competitions throughout their careers, either as soloists or as members of various ensembles (for example TEMSIG and Varaždin Woodwind & Brass Competition).
