Born in Basel, Switzerland, Felix Renggli studied flute with Gerhard Hildenbrand, Aurèle Nicolet and Peter-Lukas Graf. After his studies at the Music Academy Basel (Switzerland) he was subsequently engaged as first flute with various orchestras such as the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra from Lisbon, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Camerata Bern.
Renggli has won prizes at national and international competitions and frequently gives master classes in Europe, South America, Japan, China and Australia. He performs at numerous concerts as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, South America, the US, Japan, Korea and China. He has also appeared as a guest artist at international festivals such as in Paris, Madrid, Lucerne, Lockenhaus, Rio de Janeiro and Akiyoshidai, Japan. His regular collaboration with the oboist, conductor and composer Heinz Holliger has profoundly influenced his work as a concert artist. In 1994 Renggli succeeded Peter-Lukas Graf as Professor for flute and chamber music at the music university in Basel. He has been a faculty member of the University of Music, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany from 2004 to 2014.
His repertoire extends from new music (many premiere performances with the Swiss Chamber Soloists and Ensemble Contrechamps) to classical chamber music and solo repertoire all the way to performances of early music on authentic period instruments. Renggli has produced various CD recordings with artists and ensembles such as the Swiss Chamber Soloists, Heinz Holliger, Camerata Bern, the Arditti Quartet, Jan Schultsz, Mikayel Balyan, Chamber Academy Basel and Nova Stravaganz Cologne. Together with co-founders cellist Daniel Haefliger and violist Jürg Dähler, since 1999 Felix Renggli has shared the role of Artistic Director of the Swiss Chamber Concerts, Switzerland’s first nationwide concert series.
He has also been a professor at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland since 2014.
