17. 05. 2024

Launched over 12 years ago, THE COLLECTION magazine presents its readers with a seductive display of exquisite products and services, with content ranging from lifestyle, travel and cuisine to highlights from the world of culture. With just three issues a year, its content is carefully chosen to showcase only the best that the region has to offer.

Recently the magazine, which describes the Ljubljana Festival as the “the leading and most well-known cultural brand and event of Slovenia and its capital city”, published an interview with the Ljubljana Festival’s General and Artistic Director, Darko Brlek, in which he answered questions about the secret of the Ljubljana Festival’s decades-spanning success, the impact of the festival on the cultural landscape and his hopes for the future.

The Ljubljana Festival is one of the oldest international festivals of its scale. Year after year, it makes an important contribution to cultural life in Slovenia’s capital, with a carefully chosen programme spanning a variety of genres. Particularly in the summer months, Ljubljana becomes a place where nationally and internationally acclaimed artists come together and perform. This year’s festival, which runs from 20 June to 3 September, will see more than 100 different cultural events involving more than 5,000 performers from all over the world.

Opening with the traditional Summer Night concert, the festival will close in style on 3 September with a gala concert by peerless pianist Martha Argerich at Cankarjev Dom. Undoubted highlights of the season will include performances by the London Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, ADDA Simfònica Alicante and the Filarmonica della Scala, numerous internationally acclaimed soloists including tenors Jonathan Tetelman and Juan Diego Flórez, pianists Mikhail Pletnev and the Grammy-winning César Camargo Mariano, saxophonist and clarinettist Paquito D’Rivera, violinist Vilde Frang, prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova, conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano, Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, András Keller and Alexei Kornienko, and many others.
