The deadline for entries for the Ljubljana Festival International Competition – Brass Quintets and Quartets 2025 is 1 November 2024 at midnight. Participation is an exceptional opportunity for young brass players from all over the world to compete in a world-class competition, gain new experience and open the door to international recognition.
The competition, which will take place from 24 February to 1 March 2025 at the Slovenian Philharmonic, will give young musicians the chance to showcase their creativity and technical perfection as part of brass chamber ensembles. Organised by Festival Ljubljana, the event will be held for the first time in the Slovenian capital and will bring together talented musicians from all over the world.
Competitors will be able to take part in two categories:
- Brass Quintets: 2 trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba
- Brass Quartets:
- 4 trombones
- 4 horns
- 4 tubas
- 1 euphonium, 3 tubas
- 2 euphoniums, 2 tubas
The competition will consist of two rounds. The first round will take place from 24 to 26 February, during which the preliminary evaluation will be carried out by a renowned jury of Slovenian musicians. The jury is composed of Franc Kosem, trumpet, Dušan Kranjc, trombone and Boštjan Lipovšek, horn. The best six ensembles will qualify for the second round, which will take place on 28 February and 1 March.
A jury of top international musicians, including Reinhold Friedrich, trumpet, Radovan Vlatković, horn, Andreas Martin Hofmeir, tuba, and composer Nina Šenk, will evaluate the performances and select the winning ensemble. “Chamber music is crucial for the development of young musicians, as it encourages precise collaboration between performers,” said jury member and artistic director of the competition, Branimir Slokar.
The winning ensemble will receive a prize of €20,000.
