Pianist Arturo O’Farrill is the leader of the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, founded in 2002, with which he has won seven Grammys, most recently for last year’s album Fandango at the Wall in New York (Best Latin Jazz Album). Their concert on 30 June is the 18-piece big band’s first appearance in Slovenia and their only performance in Europe this year. Margareth Menezes is an artist in constant evolution and movement. In her songs she remains faithful to her roots and combines elements of African, Brazilian and pop music to create an attractive mixture known as Brazilian afropop, a genre she has so far brought to 30 countries on four continents. She will be bringing her brand of afropop to Križanke on 21 July.

On 23 July ADDA Simfònica Alicante will perform the music of Chick Corea. The Spanish orchestra and conductor Josep Vicent were this year nominated for both a Grammy Award and a Latin Grammy Award for their album of music by the famous jazz pianist and composer. Joining them on stage will be the Emilio Solla Trio, flamenco singer and saxophonist Antonio Lizana, trumpeter David Pastor and Cuban-American saxophonist and clarinettist Paquito D’Rivera. The controversial American composer, rock musician, guitarist and singer Frank Zappa produced music in a wide variety of styles. On 19 August the highly regarded Ensemble Dissonance and conductor Jonathan Stockhammer will bring their interpretive breadth to a selection of Zappa’s works. They will be joined by guitarist Vlatko Stefanovski and singer Blaž Šef.
