In May BBC Music Magazine included the 72nd Ljubljana Festival in its pick of the 30 best classical music festivals taking place across Europe this year. We are proud to be included in this selection, since this is a vindication of years of hard work and our efforts to offer audiences cultural events of the highest level. Summer in Slovenia’s capital this year will once again be characterised by a carefully chosen festival programme spanning a variety of genres and running from 20 June to 3 September. Ljubljana will be transformed into one big cultural venue, with various locations including Plečnik’s Križanke complex, the Cankarjev Dom cultural and congress centre and other cultural institutions hosting more than 100 events involving more than 5,000 performers from Slovenia and abroad. The festival will offer a wide range of events, from classical concerts, opera and ballet to theatre and art exhibitions.

We will open the season on 20 June with the gala concert Summer Night, this year dedicated to the legendary singers Ditka Haberl, Alenka Pinterič and Neca Falk. New arrangements of their biggest hits will be performed by a series of outstanding guest singers, accompanied by the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, Big Band and Youth Choir, under the musical direction of Patrik Greblo.

Undoubted highlights of the season will include performances by the London Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, ADDA Simfònica Alicante and the Filarmonica della Scala, numerous internationally acclaimed soloists including tenors Jonathan Tetelman and Juan Diego Flórez, pianists Mikhail Pletnev and César Camargo Mariano, saxophonist and clarinettist Paquito D’Rivera, violinist Vilde Frang, prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova, conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano, Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, András Keller and Alexei Kornienko, and many others.

Come and join the summer cultural scene in the capital!
