Streamed dance performances from Rome’s La Nuvola convention centre

14. 01. 2021

Visit the YouTube channel of the Opera di Roma at 8.00 pm on Saturday, 16 January to watch a performance of Vivaldi Suite, the second and final part of the Danza alla Nuvola cycle. The first part, Baroque Suite, was performed on 9 January and is still available to watch on YouTube. The piece is a new work created for the Corpo di Ballo dell’Opera di Roma by choreographer Michele Merola, the founder and artistic director of the MM Contemporary Dance Company. The soloist is Claudio Cocino.

With this work Merola pays homage to the great baroque composer also known as il prete rosso (the Red Priest), a reference to his red hair and his ordination to the priesthood at the age of twenty-five. We will hear “Cum dederit”, the fourth movement of Vivaldi’s psalm setting Nisi Dominus, RV 608, the Allegro from the Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 11, No. 2, RV 277 (“Il favorito”), the Largo from the Violin Concerto in D major, RV 234 (“L’inquietudine”), and the Trio Sonata, Op. 1, No. 12, RV 63 (“La follia”).

The dancers’ costumes were designed by iconic Italian fashion house Laura Biagiotti.
