‘In our relationships with European festivals, we value the process of communication and interaction. They know a few about what is held in Russia. Of course, this makes our joint work and cooperation quite difficult. And just because the Forums like this give an opportunity to communicate with each other,” conductor and one of the speakers of the Festival of Festivals Program Yuri Bashmet told TASS.
Specifically for the purpose of discussing festival cooperation between Russia and Europe, there will be a major delegation of leading European organizations, which determine most parameters of cultural development policy in the region, coming to the event. The key event of the Festival of Festivals – discussion session “International Festivals: Cooperation Above Borders” will be held on November 16 in the Main Headquarters of the Hermitage. Its main goal is to determine the cooperation concept between Russian festivals and the European Festival Association, founded in 1952. The EFA organizes more than 100 worldwide festivals in 40 countries. And determine the cooperation concept between Russian festivals and the program entitled “Europe for Festivals – Festivals for Europe” created by the European Union and the European Festival Association to support international art festivals and designate their special role in the shaping of cultural dialogue.
Work at the Festival of Festivals will continue on November 17. The meeting with representatives of EFA and EFFE will focus on practical cooperation opportunities between Russian and international festivals. For the first time, the issue of setting up the first Association of Festivals in Russia will be raised.
