The concert, which took place at Gallus Hall on 9 July 2024 as part of the 72nd Ljubljana Festival, was dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven and was enthusiastically received by the large and appreciative audience. Led by legendary conductor Zubin Mehta, the orchestra performed the Egmont Overture, a prototypical example of the “heroic” style that bears a certain similarity to the Fifth Symphony; Beethoven’s lone, extraordinary Violin Concerto in D, featuring radiant soloist Lana Trotovšek, celebrated for her “clean, refined tone with musical sense of phrasing and impeccable intonation”; and the Seventh Symphony, known as much for the ebullience of its lively outer movements in A major as for the extraordinary A-minor detour of its second-movement Allegretto, as perfect an encapsulation of the indomitable human spirit as Beethoven ever wrote.
Tune in and enjoy these remarkable performances!
