The Teatro Colón opera house is reopening its doors on the 100th centenary of the birth of legendary Argentine tango composer and performer Astor Piazzolla. In homage to the Grand Master, the Teatro Colón, in collaboration with the Astor Piazzolla Foundation, will open this year’s season with a series of events taking place from 5 to 20 March.
Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla as artistic curator, the Colón Theater Orchestra, the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bariloche Camerata, the Astor Piazzolla Quintet, the Emilio Balcarce Tango School Orchestra, Escalandrum, Pedro Ignacio Calderón, Luis Gorelik, Juan José Mosalini, Daniel Binelli, Horacio Lavandera and Néstor Marconi, among others, will participate in this musical celebration.
At the opening concert, tonight, March 5, at 24.00 our time, the Colón Theater Orchestra will perform under the baton of top conductor Luis Gorelik, who will lead the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra at this year’s grand opening of the 69th Ljubljana Festival.
