Festival Ljubljana will host the 8th Winter Festival from 20 February to 2 March 2025, enriching the winter evenings with outstanding musical events. Visitors will enjoy performances by world-renowned musicians, orchestras, and chamber ensembles. Tickets for the festival are already available and during the presale period, which lasts until 16 November, you can take advantage of a 20% discount on purchases.
The festival start on 20 February with a majestic performance of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem to be performed by the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir, direction of maestro Charles Dutoit. Also performing will be the Kaunas State Choir, the Wiener Sängerknaben and internationally acclaimed soprano Nadežda Petrova, tenor Ian Bostridge, and baritone Matthias Goerne. This monumental work will open the festival in grand style. For those unable to attend the opening, a repeat performance will take place on 21 February.
On 25 February, harp enthusiasts can enjoy the duet of two outstanding harpists, Mojca Zlobko Vajgl and Marion Ravot. The following evening, 26 February, we will enjoy a concert of Bach’s chorales and instrumentals conducted by accordionist Marko Hatlak. On 27 February, the String chamber ensemble Zagreb soloists will perform the most beautiful works from the Romantic period and the 20th century.
From 24 February to 1 March, the 8th Winter Festival will also feature the Ljubljana Festival International Competition – Brass Quintets and Quartets 2025, where young musicians will compete in the categories of brass quintets and quartets.
The festival will conclude on 2 March with a concert by the world-renowned pianist Grigory Sokolov, who performs only seven times a year. His performance will thus mark the peak of the 8th Winter Festival.
