Steven Loy: Tathata*

The Symphony Concert with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Aleksandar Spasić and Steven Loy, who is to conduct his own composition, will offer its audience a meeting between the old and new music. Luigi Verdi was already a dear guest of the Slovenian Music Days and the novelty, although written back in the ninety twenties, will be the fragments from the ballet music Čajna punčka (The Tea Doll) by Risto Savin. This ballet’s score has been lying on the shelf and the moments, when we are offered an opportunity to listen to this music, are extremely rare. Jani Golob is an old acquaintance of the concert stages. This time he opted for a combination of words and music and thus created a composition on Minatti’s poetry, in which he, as he described himself, “feeling the deepest respect for the poet and his poesy, looked for a reflection of his lyrics in the music”. Although he comes from the United States of America, we prefer to consider Steven Loy »our« composer. This open, interesting and highly educated artist has been enriching our musical community for several years; therefore the encounter with his composition Tāthatā is certainly an event that we can look forward to.
