This ensemble of fourteen string players from the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra devotes particular attention to works by Slovene composers. On this occasion the programme includes a work by Nina Šenk, one of Slovenia’s finest young composers, and the harp concerto by Ivo Petrić, the winner of this year’s Prešeren Prize – the country’s most prestigious award for cultural achievements. The soloist in the latter work is Alexandra Verbitskaya, whose musical career has been followed with attention by the famed conductor Zubin Mehta, who presented her with her harp. Since 2005 she has been employed as harpist and pianist with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
