The third masterclass teachers’ concert will also see the return of several world-renowned performers and teachers who are regular guests at the summer festival: double bassist Rick Stotijn is a highly versatile musician trained in Amsterdam who now teaches at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. Clarinettist François Benda studied in Graz and Geneva and is today a professor at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin and the Hochschule für Musik Basel. Pianist Elina Gotsouliak trained in Riga and Basel and is equally at home on the harpsichord. Pianist Zsuzsa Bálint, who studied in Essen and Berlin, teaches at the UdK in Berlin. Together, these musicians will present a stylistically varied programme of chamber music spanning several periods, with works by Italian Romantic composer and double bass virtuoso Giovanni Bottesini, Italian opera innovator Gioacchino Rossini, French composer and Les Six member Francis Poulenc, American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, Argentinian tango revolutionary Astor Piazzolla, American contemporary composer David Anderson, twentieth-century Hungarian composer Vilmos Montag, Russian composer of German and Polish descent Reinhold Glière, and twentieth-century American composer Morton Gould.
