Svetlana Zakharova and Vadim Repin, partners in life and on the stage, will conjure up a unique pas de deux blending dance and music at the 73rd Ljubljana Festival. Zakharova, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet and an étoile of the La Scala Theatre Ballet, captivates audiences and critics alike with her warmth, flawless technique and deeply expressive interpretation of the widest range of dance roles. She will be joined by the Russian-born Belgian violinist Vadim Repin, who at the age of 17 became the youngest winner of the violin section of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Brussels. Today he specialises in the music of Russian and French composers, along with contemporary music.
Pas de Deux for Toes and Fingers, the first project created jointly by the husband and wife team of Repin and Zakharova, has immediately enchanted audiences. Part concert, part dance recital, it incorporates a wide range of music, which the two performers say allows them plenty of freedom in their interpretation. They will be accompanied by Ensemble Dissonance, consisting of internationally acclaimed musicians from Ljubljana. Ever since its foundation, the ensemble has been committed to the development and performance of chamber music at the highest artistic level and to broadening knowledge of this musical genre among the public and increasing its prestige.
