It would be difficult to claim that there is a name in the world of tango more renowned than that of composer and bandoneonist Astor Piazzolla. His recognition and influence extend beyond the boundaries of the genre, as he is considered one of the most influential Argentine composers of all time. By incorporating elements of jazz and classical music, Piazzolla transformed and modernized traditional tango into a new style, tango nuevo, which, thanks in large part to his contributions, has become a globally widespread and popular genre. His compositions also demonstrate mastery of classical compositional principles and a profound knowledge of the scores of composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Béla Bartók, and Maurice Ravel.
The chamber orchestra Munich Virtuosi is renowned for performing music on string instruments crafted by legendary makers such as Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati, Guadagnini, and others, lending their interpretations of both classical and popular works a particularly rich sound. The chamber orchestra’s charismatic music director, solo violinist and conductor Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici became the artistic director of the Munich Virtuosi in 2004. Having served as concertmaster of such world-famous orchestras as the Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera and the Munich Philharmonic, he has also gained worldwide recognition for his solo performances and tours with various chamber ensembles, including the Celibidache Trio, which he founded in 1996. In 2013 he also took on leadership of the Mariinsky Stradivarius Ensemble.
