Manuel de Falla: Love, the sorcerer, ballet-pantomime in one act (Ballet Suite)
***
Leonard Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story

The ADDA Symphony Orchestra, under artistic director and principal conductor Josep Vicent, famous for his great versatility and charisma, will appear this year with a selection of masterpieces from the Western art music tradition, enriched by a touch of flamenco and the illustrations of Spanish artist Sagar Forniés. In 2023 conductor and orchestra were nominated for both a Grammy and a Latin Grammy for their album Ritmo: The Chick Corea Symphony Tribute, which they presented at last year’s 72nd Ljubljana Festival. In 2024 they were nominated for the album Latin Rites. Famed for its stylistically broad repertoire and incorporation of multimedia techniques, the orchestra will be joined by two essential figures from the world of Spanish flamenco. Born in France, singer Ginesa Ortega has lived most of her life in Catalonia, where she began dedicating herself to flamenco at the age of twelve. Classical training and a deep interest in jazz have shaped her highly versatile voice. David Romero began his solo career as a flamenco dancer in Barcelona in 1994. Today he is artistic director and choreographer at the Palacio del Flamenco theatre and a teacher at the Taller de Músics music school – both in Barcelona. As well as the ballet-pantomime El Amor Brujo, the story of an Andalusian gypsy woman called Candela, by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla, we will hear the orchestral suite Spanish Capriccio, into which composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov incorporated Spanish folk melodies, and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, which composer Leonard Bernstein adapted from parts of his famous musical of the same name.
