The Synodal Choir is one of the first professional musical groups in the country, leading its history since the XVI century from the choir of Patriarchal singing deacons. At the choir there was a school of spiritual and singing art, which gave their Fatherland a whole galaxy of outstanding musical figures. Since the second half of the XIX century, the Synodal Choir has also conducted concert and touring activities. During this period, the collective collaborated with P.I. Tchaikovsky and S.V. Rachmaninov, and its activities were supported by the Governor-General of Moscow, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich Romanov.
The current Moscow Synodal Choir began its revival in the spring of 2009. Currently, the group consists of 80 singers. In addition to participating in solemn divine services, the Moscow Synodal Choir performs concert programs in Moscow, Russia and abroad. The choir represents Russian culture in many international projects – the collective was chosen as a partner by the main choir of the Vatican – the Choir of the Pontifical Sistine Music Chapel. In 2010, the Foundation was established to promote the Revival of the Synodal Choir, which implements the activities of the collective and sets itself the task of preserving and developing the best traditions of liturgical church singing in Russia and popularizing this art. The head of the Moscow Synodal Choir is Honored Artist of Russia Alexey Puzakov.
