Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte formed an invaluable partnership, one that remains unparalleled in the history of musical theatre. Their operatic trilogy, which includes Don Giovanni, dramatically reshaped the nature of Italian opera, transcending the boundaries of its time to achieve immortality and leaving an indelible mark on the operatic canon. This masterpiece is regarded as one of the pinnacles of the genre. Based on a Spanish legend about the libertine and seducer Don Giovanni, the composer and librettist masterfully blended comic elements with supernatural themes, while placing profound existential questions of freedom and morality at the opera’s core. In doing so, they stylistically diverged from the established genre conventions that dominated opera at the time.

The opera will be performed in concert form by the Pehlivanian Opera Academy, a platform that connects aspiring conductors and singers from around the world. Following last year’s successful concert performance of Puccini’s La Bohème, maestro George Pehlivanian will once again pass the conductor’s baton to young professional conductors. Additionally, numerous emerging vocal talents will take on the opera’s roles, honing their skills in operatic performance and production through their collaboration with the academy. Maestro Pehlivanian, the academy’s founder, refined his conducting expertise after relocating from his native Beirut to Los Angeles, studying under some of the most prominent post-war musicians, including Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel, and Ferdinand Leitner. Today, he is recognized as one of the leading conductors of his generation.
