Three Dogs is a comic strip opera or musical inspired by a comic strip, an artform that is increasingly respected and appreciated. The three dogs – Fili, Bibi and Čoko – who inspired the characters in the opera are real, but the medium of the comic strip will introduce other symbolic and technological elements: the two-dimensionality of the image, the monochrome palette of the urban habitat, the heightening of the dramatic intensity of the narrative through the inclusion of genre elements, direct engagement in brief episodic scenes, the visual onomatopoeia characteristic of comic strips, and so on.
Three dogs with typical canine problems, trapped in a shallow world and searching for depth and colour (translated into dog language: food, security and love). These characters and the fates that befall them are also a good reflection of the way that children – and people in general – can feel amid the chaos of our crazy modern world.
Pearls of canine wisdom… about life, which is an adventure; friendship, which one cannot do without on a stormy night; freedom and comfort; pedigree… and, of course, sausages.
A dog’s story is always epic, so the present one is probably just the first of many adventures that one would expect to befall any good dog. Let alone three dogs.
