Programme:
L.van Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61
B. Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra, Sz. 116

German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter is a global star of the violin. Her playing enchanted Herbert von Karajan, one of the greatest conductors of all time, when she made her first appearance with the Berlin Philharmonic under his baton at the age of just thirteen. Their collaboration continued until his death. She made her Salzburg Festival debut at the age of fourteen and performed with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta at seventeen. Her glittering 40-year career has continued in the same spirit. We will have the opportunity to admire the four-time Grammy Award winner, who is also a mentor and a musical visionary, in a performance of Beethoven’s magnificently dramatic Violin Concerto in D major, the only violin concerto in the great composer’s oeuvre. The world-famous violin diva will be accompanied by the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra directed by the Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck, who began his conducting career as Claudio Abbado’s assistant and then became a regular conductor at the Zurich Opera House, where in 1993 he won the European Conducting Prize awarded by the Pro Europa Foundation. He then spent several years conducting orchestras in Norway, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. In 2008 he became music director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, with which he won a Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance in 2018.
