Yes, it is true! It’s been 10 years since the spectacular opening of Mamma Mia! in Slovenian translation and adaptation, which captured Slovenian audience’s imagination and convinced even the critics, that Slovenian creative teams can match those of the biggest stage productions in the world. Not only match, but sometimes even outmatch them. That just may be one of the reasons why it seems as though 10 years passed as quickly as a summer breeze in the Greek islands. On 14 June Križanke open air theatre will once again transform itself into a Greek island where we will once again enjoy this timeless romantic comedy about a girl who grew up in the 70s and the other one who grew up in the 90s. Through the magical expressive might of ABBA’s songs we meet Donna, a single and independent mother, who does not need a man to lead a fulfilling life. We also meet her twenty-year-old daughter Sophie, who longs for romance, children of her own and a big fairytale wedding. How will the story full of optimism and energy end this time? Will we finally find out who Sophie’s father is? Do not miss out on this exceptional opportunity to join us in celebration of the 10th anniversary of this unforgettable and most coveted musical in Slovenian history.

The musical will be performed in Slovene and it lasts approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, including an intermission.

  • The Slovenian version of Mamma Mia! came about mainly thanks to our former skiing ace Jure Franko, who won the silver medal in the giant slalom competition at the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo
  • The project was conceived by British producer Judy Craymer and first performed in 1999 in London’s West End, in close collaboration with the composers Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus
  • Tomaž Domicelj translated the 23 compositions from English into Slovene
  • ABBA was the first Swedish group to win the Eurovision Song Contest, with their song “Waterloo” on 6 April 1974
  • Their music is strongly influenced by “dansband”, a Swedish genre with roots in Swedish folk music and rock and roll, which is still very popular in Sweden
  • ABBA has sold over 300 million albums and singles worldwide
